The 2020 Ohio Japanese Speech Contest was held online on Sunday, April 5 via Zoom. 18 students from 8 Ohio high schools and universities presented their speeches for and engaged in a question-and-answer period with 3 judges. The contest was streamed live to the JASCO YouTube channel.

We hope that everyone will continue working hard at your Japanese language studies, and that you’ll consider participating in the speech contest again next year! The Speech Contest is going to be held via Zoom, and streamed live to our YouTube channel. Due to the Zoom-YouTube streaming settings, we will not be able top announce the streaming URL until the beginning of the competition, but we will update this page when that URL is available (as well as make a post to our Facebook account).

Statement of PurposeSince 1999, JASCO has been hosting the Ohio Japanese Speech Contest, offering an opportunity for Japanese-language learners to showcase their achievements. The objective of this event is to foster Japanese language education throughout the state of Ohio by supporting the continued effort of local public schools and colleges to improve the quality of the Japanese-language learning environment.
