  Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Greek - many international culinary styles have been embraced and adopted by home cooks here in the States. What's next?

  Many say it's Japanese cuisine, and in this geographic area (close to the campus of a massive Japanese auto maker employing over 15,000 local residents) that trend is making its mark.

  In this session on the subject, Chef Kibby will share his first-hand knowledge and experience as you become even more comfortable cooking authentic Japanese cuisine at home.

  WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • Hear personal stories from Chef Kibby about his experiences visiting Japan and cooking authentic Japanese cuisine
    
  • See ingredients used in Japanese food that are now readily available at the local supermarket
    
  • Experience how familiar American staples like ground beef, fried vegetables, and fresh strawberries can be prepared with a Japanese twist

  About Chef Kibby

  Chef Kibby's is to entertain, educate, and empower people from various walks of life to prepare healthy, delicious, home-made meals. He does so through informative online content and their participation in hands-on kitchen sessions.

  
  

  Through his company Cookin' With Kibby, he offers catering, cooking demos, and group sessions in a wide variety of cuisines.   Learn how to greet Japanese people

  What is the most important thing to do when greeting a Japanese person? You will learn important knowledge about Japanese greetings that you will be able to use in your next interaction with a Japanese client or colleague with confidence

  Learn what you need to build relationships

  What do you need to build lasting relationships with your Japanese colleagues/clients? You will learn about Japanese business culture and behaviors as well as practical survival tips to help you build trusting relationships in the workplace.

  Be prepared for what to do next

  Now that you've met, what should you do? This workshop is designed to build your confidence in your ability to work effectively with Japanese people. Essential phrases are practiced in fun and interactive sessions!

  About Dublin Taiko

  In 2003 Ms Susann Blair, band director at Davis Middle School became aware of a Dublin Arts Council grant that would provide for a year long residency program enabling a group of 20 middle school students and their music teacher to learn Taiko from Eitetsu Hayashi, the world's preeminent taiko solo performer. She committed herself and her students to this one year residency.​

  
  

  After Eitetsu's residency ended, Ms Blair continued teaching Taiko and the Dublin Taiko Group (DTG) was created. From an initial group of 20 middle school students, DTG has grown to over 120 students in grades 6-12 and is now the largest k-12 based taiko organization in North America. DTG alumni return to play with the group and have gone on to play with Taiko groups at Miami University of Ohio, Bowling Green State University, Columbia, Berkeley and Cornell.  

  
  

  DTG currently consists of 4 levels of students: Beginners (first year Taiko learners), Veterans (2nd year and up), DTG JV (students have shown a desire and commitment to become members of DTG) and finally DTG, the main performance group. All groups will have multiple opportunities to perform during the course of a year.

   

  The mission of Dublin Taiko Group is to develop student performers who demonstrate a passion for the artistry of Taiko and promote diversity and expansion of cultural knowledge in our community.
